Usage was limited to 1h per day. Having internet at home was still an exception back then. I was fascinated by this technology that enabled you to talk with people from all over the world.\n\nMy peers created websites centered around their interests. Some of these websites had message boards and chats so that visitors could talk to each other. Over time, small communities emerged that were connected by a shared interest and the desire to exchange thoughts. I met new friends, learned many things and felt at home.\n\nEventually, the internet evolved. Platforms such as YouTube, Twitter, Reddit, StackExchange and Discord conquered the web due to their ease of use, large user base and extensive functionality. But as the profit-driven companies running these platforms started to shift their operations the flip side of centralization became apparent. \n\nI rarely ever posted anything on these platforms thus reducing my online presence to that of an observer for the most part. As the old internet I knew slowly faded away the world wide web became surprisingly narrow for me.\n\nThis website aims to restore a bit of this old spirit characterized by cooperation and freedom and you are cordially invited to participate.
